"We Interrupt This Broadcast"

As the previous activity showed you, in the decades following WW2 all the way up to the 1990’s, the “Cold War” was always on people’s minds.  People were constantly seeing everything from comic books, bomb shelters, “Red Scare Trials” to “duck and cover” instruction in schools.

After listening to a couple different “news broadcasts” from the CD you now have a basic understanding of what a news reporter might have said in one of those famous news broadcasts.

Our next assignment is for you to create a broadcast that would fit into the Cold War era.  You pick one major event from the Cold War and research it.  You should try to find the most important information about the event.  This would mean not only the “when and where” but also “Why will this event be important?”

Events you could choose vary from the Soviets launching of Sputnik to the War in Vietnam.

After you gather the information put it together in the form of a script for you to read.  Next come to me so I can proofread and then help you record it using audacity (seen below).  We will save the work as an MP3 and then you can upload it to Window’s Movie Maker on your computer and edit it into its final format.

When all is done you will have an audio recording synced up with pictures- just like a real broadcast!!!!

Where is Audacity?
