Technology in World War One (and the bigger picture)
Think for a minute about what you consider to be the most important item that you own. Is that something that existed 10 years ago, 40 years ago, 100 years ago... 200 years ago.
If technology is important to you now would you think it (technology) has always been important in the "progress" and achievements of people?
Think of the different ways technology effects us everyday. Communication, transportation, the technology that keeps us healthy, the technology we need related to food.
The first activity for this section will involve the technology which is important to us today- and groundbreaking when it was invented
Most Important Inventions throughout time
We live in a society completely reliant on the technology around us. We are very dependent on these tools and appliances for both our survival and our entertainment.
The purpose of this assignment is to review the innovations below and discuss the effects of each one. Discuss the impact on the world, our country, our region and yourself.
After the first part of the assignment where you considered many different inventions, you will be taking on the role of salesman. You will have to create an advertisement for one of the selected inventions.
You will have to create a sales pitch (why the customer should buy this product) and design an advertisement. In the end you will be submitting a final copy on a poster, and presenting the “sales pitch” to the class.

World War One Technology
Now that you have thought about inventions in the big picture- lets get a little more specific. If technology is important to us now for everyday “trivial” things like texting imagine how important it is when the situation is “life or death”?
How important has technology been in Military History? The change from spears, to guns, then automatic guns all the way to nuclear bombs…
How important is technology to those people who have and continue to risk their lives for us?
World War One is a great case study into the importance and impact of military technology. Tanks, machine guns, and poisonous gases all contributed to the misery of trench warfare you saw in the past assignment using Youtube.
Select one wartime technology you think is important to history to briefly research. You will create a thesis (argument) for why that is the most important weapon/invention of all time- this will be presented to the class.
Alternative Assignment
Name four different military weapons and describe the impact each had on World War One and the way it was fought. (Things to include- what it was, who invented it, how it was used, why it made such a big difference, etc.) 2 paragraphs each
